Major: Government and Music
Class of 2019
Hometown: Leesburg, VA

Emmel joined NKE her first semester at William & Mary, because the idea of an inclusive space dedicated to service and friendship based on a mutual love of music seemed like just the right introduction to college. As philanthropy chair, Emmel extended NKE’s outreach into the community by facilitating a new annual fundraising event for Songs for Kids, called NKoachElla. NKoachElla helped raise $1200 for SFK, and gained NKE personal recognition from the founder of Songs for Kids. This year, as secretary, she hopes to continue aiding NKE’s upward momentum by establishing accommodations in conjunction with the attendance policy and point system, as part of NKE’s overall effort to increase awareness and sensitivity to mental health and different abilities. In addition to NKE, Emmel is also involved with a few other organizations on campus, including Rocket Magazine for which she is the managing and features editor, and First Year Experience, for which she is an Orientation Aide. In her free time, when she has some, she enjoys listening to music and playing guitar, as well as reading, keeping up with the news, and wishing she was in New York City. Fun fact: Emmel is half Egyptian and has been to Egypt twice.

Rhyan joined NKE her first semester of her sophomore year and regrets not finding her sisters sooner. Music has always been a big part of her life, but playing music never worked out for her. When she isn’t in class or working as a nanny you can find her painting, drinking way too much coffee, or watching Netflix. If you ever need anything she is sure to have it in her Mary Poppins-esque purse.
